Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons (½ stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup molasses
  • ¾ cup boiling water
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 9-inch Basic Flaky Piecrust, unbaked
How to Make It
  1. Pulse the flour, brown sugar, butter, and ¼ teaspoon salt in a food processor until crumbly; set aside.
  2. Whisk together the molasses and boiling water; whisk in the egg and baking soda. Pour into the piecrust, top with the flour mixture, and bake at 350°F until the center is set, 40 to 50 minutes. Let cool completely.
