Ingredients
For the Hamburgers
- 2 pounds ground chuck
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 6 hamburger buns
- 6 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
For the Coleslaw
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1½ tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ½ medium green cabbage, thinly sliced
- ½ medium red cabbage, thinly sliced
- 2 medium carrots, grated
How to Make It
-
To make the Hamburgers
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chuck, onion powder, seasoned salt, kosher salt, and black pepper using your hands or a wooden spoon. Be mindful not to overmix the meat.
- Divide the mixture into six patties. Preheat a 10-inch cast-iron skillet on high heat and add the patties (three at a time to avoid overcrowding the skillet).
- Cook the patties until a crust forms, 2 to 3 minutes. Gently flip the burgers using a spatula. If using, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty. Continue to cook for 2 to 3 minutes for rare or medium rare; 4 to 5 minutes for more well done.
- Remove from the heat, place on the buns, and serve with your preferred toppings. To make the Coleslaw
- In a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, salt, and black pepper. Add both cabbages and the grated carrots, and toss to coat.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator at least 1 hour, or up to 8 hours.
